X-ray Diffraction

What Is X-ray Diffraction?

X-ray diffraction (XRD) is the constructive interference pattern created from x-rays scattered by the uniformly arranged atoms in a crystal.

Single-Crystal vs. Polycrystalline Materials

A single crystal will produce a diffraction pattern with spots. A polycrystalline (powder) material will produce a diffraction pattern with rings because of the random orientation of the polycrystals.
